The course will be structured on lectures and case-studies. The detailed course programme and the syllabus will be available on-line (ARIEL).
Constitutionalism and Sustainable Development
Programma
The course focuses on the core principles of Constitutional Law in a dynamic perspective, related to the idea of sustainable development.
It explores both theories and praxis of the democratic organization of the State in connection with the ongoing processes of globalization and constitutionalization of international law.
The course also deals with the nature and the system of protection of fundamental rights in a global perspective.
The second part of the course will be focused on the evolution of the EU strategy of sustainable development.
At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the role of governments, judiciary power, constitutional courts and other institutions in the development of effective policies and protection of constitutional rights related to substantial development.

No texts need to be purchased for the course; all teaching materials will be available online, through the Ariel site, or on reserve at the library. Please consult the syllabus for each reading assignment and additional readings suggested for students who wish to go further on topics of particular interests.
Legal Clinic: Social rights protection and economic disequality in multilevel perspective
Programma
The course will explore the role of public institutions (Courts and Committee) in promoting sustainable development - and in particular social rights - in a multilevel perspective.
It will assess the role of international, supranational and national institutions in social rights protection, through the analysis of a selection of relevant case-studies.
The final part of the legal clinic will be devoted to the study of social rights protection in time of economic crisis, and in particular during the Eurozone crisis.
