This course will deal with several biotechnological aspects of the molecular and cellular microbiology regarding: i) modern methods of genomics and functional genomics (e.g. DNA- and RNA-sequencing, metagenomics, transcriptomics, metatranscriptomics), ii) gene regulation at post-transcriptional level and gene silencing mediated by antisense oligomers, iii) phage therapy, iv) development of whole cell biosensors, v) anti-horizontal gene transfer mechanisms and their use for genome engineering.

Propedeuticità
Basic knowledge of microbiology, genetics and molecular biology
Prerequisiti
Have a good knowledge of molecular biology, genetics and microbiology. The purpose of the examination is to evaluate the acquisition by the student of the topics covered in the course and his ability to apply the gained knowledge. The methods of examination are assessed by a written test, consisting of some open-ended questions on topics covered in the course.
