Obiettivi formativi
The course will deal with the problem of the degradation of organic and inorganic pollutants produced industrially or naturally present in the environment, which treatment plants can be used to treat the purification of solid and liquid environmental phases, their costs, and which regulations must be respected in the design of these plants or applied technologies. Indications will also be given on how to deal with environmental and sustainability management standards in industry to reduce or control the flow of pollutants from industrial processes.
Risultati apprendimento attesi
The student will be able to analyze and propose, depending on the problem, the processes and systems underlying the industrial treatments of pollutants, approach the environmental problems deriving from industrial production processes, and be able to refer to the main standards in force in the world in this sector. The student will be able to understand the meaning of the Sustainability Management in industrial production not only theoretically but through the vision of the impact of pollutants deriving from anthropic and industrial processes.

Programma
The educational approach consists of frontal lessons and a project work regarding the deepening of a treatment plant for environmental pollutants . The oral exam will be based on the presentation of the project work and on the course program. The course program is divided in five topics related to Pollutants treatment plants, Environmental control and Environmental Sustainability. During the earliest lessons every student will be supported to choose the subject of the project work and a specific project plan will be developed to be discussed as a preliminary to the oral examination.

1. Historical approach to Environmental Management. Pollutants: definition and propagation in Environmental phases. The water footprint. The transformation of Organic and inorganic pollutants in the Environment: Reactions and Kinetics. Biotransformation and Biodegradation of organic compounds;
2. Otherview of the main Water Treatment Plants (Scheme and Processes): Biologic Waste Water Treatment, Chemical Waste Water Treatment, Drinking Water (or Sanitary Uses) Treatment Plants;
3. Otherview of the main Soil Treatment Plants (Scheme and Processes) and underground water treatment technologies: Isolation, Immobilization, Main Biological and Chemical soil remediation techs;
4. Legislation and Environmental Control. Introduction to EU Environmental laws. (Objectives, Instruments, Main laws, REACH). Introduction to US Environmental Laws. ISO Standard, ISO 14001, Management System, Processes, Certification;
5. Sustainability Management: Basic Principles, Sustainable Development Goal, Circular Economy, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Creation of Shared Value (CSV), Sustainability Strategic plan;
Prerequisiti
General knowledge in the field of Environmental Chemistry, bases of organic and inorganic Chemistry.
Metodi didattici

Modalità di verifica dell’apprendimento e criteri di valutazione
The assessment method is an oral examination concerning the topics presented during the course, as an alternative to a written exam based on multiple-choice tests. Moreover, the student will present a project work. This project work, developed under the supervision of the professor and presented during the oral exam, will consist of a specific Environmental treatment plant designed in compliance with Environmental and Sustainability Regulations.
