Obiettivi formativi
The workshop focuses on the theme of innovation in the public sector, seen through the lens of organisational studies. The aim is to provide the students with an interpretive key to understand innovation and the different ways in which it manifests in the public organisations, seen as "open systems". The workshop sets out to cover a selection of topics through reading of the relevant literature, theoretical reflections, testimonies and practical cases. The workshop has a limited number of places with a final exam scheduled for attending students.
Risultati apprendimento attesi
By the end of the laboratory, students will be able to recognize and appreciate the relevance of innovation in public services organizations; have a clear understanding of the managerial issues connected with the implementation of innovation in the public sector; be able to understand and assess the contribution of citizens and society at large as agents and co-producers of innovation.

Programma
The workshop will revolve around the following topics:
- Introduction to the workshop: conceptual premises
- Innovation and the public sector: the state of the research
- EU innovation Scoreboard, Digital Agenda and e-government
- Using Artificial Intelligence to rethink the public sector
- Co-creation and co-production of public services
- Cities as innovation labs
- Risks and resistance: the other face of innovation.

NB: The order of the content and the depth of study may vary according to the interest shown by the students in the different topics.
Prerequisiti
The teaching materials used are international publications and works that require the student to have a good command and proficiency of the English language.
Metodi didattici
The workshop is made up of lectures and presentations.
The teacher will alternate classes with student assignments (presentations, discussions and web searches) to assess their learning benefits and presentation skills.
Materiale di riferimento
Slides prepared by the teacher and extracts from articles and books distributed to the participants. Any relevant web page of interest will be reported during the course of the Laboratory.
Modalità di verifica dell’apprendimento e criteri di valutazione
To earn 3 CFU, the student will need to prepare presentations and research via the web which will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Knowledge of the topics
- Appropriateness of terminology
- Ability for "transversal" interpretation
- Ability to think critically.
