Obiettivi formativi
This is a single semester course (2nd semester) consisting in a module of 30 hours lessons.
The aim of the course is to provide pre-law students an introduction to the use of legal English in national and international legal contexts while developing a range of language skills, both written and oral at intermediate level including a strong focus on international commercial law and contracts in particular, as well as some of the main aspects of corporate and financial transactions of an extraordinary nature, and the regulation of listed companies.
These lessons will help pre-law students building skills and confidence to write, speak, and listen in the context of legal English matters.
Risultati apprendimento attesi
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Understand English legal papers that range from commercial contracts, legal documents and corporate and financial agreements and write and speak about legal papers.
- Understand and use English legal terminology.

The syllabus is divided into a general part, in which the lexical, morpho-syntactic and stylistic aspects of legal English will be dealt with, and a special part related to the legal activity, with particular attention to the terminology and concepts most frequently used in working practice.
For A/L students, the course will be held from 26 February to 1 April 2020 and it will deal with international commercial law and contracts in particular as well as corporate transactions of an extraordinary nature, stock exchange listing transactions and the regulation of takeover bids.
Prerequisiti
In view of the topics covered, it is advisable to take the course only after having passed the exams of Private Law and Commercial Law Institutions, although there are no prerequisites.
Metodi didattici
The exam will be written, it will be held on the same dates for both A/L students and M/Z students. Candidates will be asked to answer open-ended and multiple-choice questions, it will last 45 minutes and during the exam only monolingual dictionary will be allowed. Same type of text exam will be applied both to attending/non-attending students. It is strongly recommended that students attend the full course.

The lessons will be held directly in English, with the necessary and appropriate digressions in Italian, and will focus not only on the theoretical illustration of the various topics, but also on the analysis and study of practical cases.
