Obiettivi formativi
This course aims to prepare the students to undertake their future career in the ambit of innovation-oriented industrial enterprises, operating in highly competitive and challenging markets. Furthermore, the course will give the students a good knowledge of the patent system, in Italy and abroad, to enable them to make proper decisions in the Innovation Process (IP).
Risultati apprendimento attesi
At the end of this class, the students are expected to:
- know the patent system from the point of view of the user, so as to learn when it is advisable to patent, when to enforce a patent and what can be expected form a patent.
- understand the general dynamics of the Innovation Process, with particular reference to the nature and roles of the subjects involved in the process, and to the main methods that can be exploited to create value on a socio-economic level, with particular reference to the business model.
- know the patent system from the point of view of the user, so as to learn when it is advisable to patent, when to enforce a patent and what can be expected form a patent.

Metodi didattici
Teaching mode: classroom lectures supported by projected material. Attendance is highly recommended.
As for the [Patents] part, at the end of the course, a lesson on strategic matters is provided, during which, after an introduction on criteria, students are requested to set forth some strategic guidelines, and a final joined lesson is provided, wherein it is shown how patents are part of the management of innovation.
As for the [Management of Innovation] part, in order to deepen specific aspects, open sources, freely available on the Internet are given, whenever possible. This information is complemented with the disclosure of specific experience by the teacher.

Oral examinations
The part of [Patents] involves five questions, one on IP general matters (max. 2 marks), 3 questions on the patent law (max. 3 marks each) and one question on a practical case, where information learned during the course should be properly managed (max. 4 marks).
The part [Management of Innovation] consists in three to four questions which are aimed at evaluating the ability of the student to use the main concepts disclosed during the course.
