Obiettivi formativi
The course aims at providing students with the history and the sources of both the labour/employment law and the social policy of the European Union (EU) in order to prepare the students to critically assess the importance of EU Labour Law, providing them with the tools to understand the roadmap of the EU Labour Law.
In particular the goals of the course are as follows:
· understanding the social policy of the EU and its trends
· understanding the challenges which the EU is facing in order to balance economic and social needs
· understanding the complexity of the levels, actors and sources involved
· examining the most important case-law of the Court of Justice of the European Union related to Labour Law

TEACHING METHODOLOGY
The lessons will be held on Microsoft Teams and followed both synchronously and asynchronously because they will be recorded.
PROGRAMME AND MATERIAL
Both the programme and the material will not be changed by the Covid-19 emergency.
EXAM
Because of Covid-19 the evaluation will be done through an oral examination by Microsoft Teams.
Programma
The course deals with the social policy of the European Union.
In particular the course focuses on the study of the following topics:
- the right of free movement of workers
- the EU citizenship
- the analysis of the fundamental EU social rights
- the collective labour relations at the EU level
- the concepts of employer and employee at the EU level
- the EU principle of non-discrimination
- the employment policies of the EU
- the conditions of employment at the EU level
- the EU in the international perspective
Prerequisiti
The knowledge of the European Union Law is recommended but not mandatory to attend the course.
Metodi didattici
The teaching activity will be delivered through frontal lessons, supported by slides downloadable from ARIEL, in which a constant interaction with the students will be required.
The attendance is recommended.
Materiale di riferimento
Students are required to study the material available on ARIEL.
Modalità di verifica dell’apprendimento e criteri di valutazione
The expected learning outcomes will be ascertained through an oral exam which will tend to verify the student's ability to apply the knowledge acquired in class.
To pass the exam an assessment of at least 18/30 is required.
The final grade may be refused by the students who will be allowed to resit the exam the next session.
The evaluation criteria will be related to the student's ability in re-elaborating the notions acquired.
