Obiettivi formativi
The students will learn the differences between basic and applied science and how to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge on phenomena in work- and everyday life.
Aim of the course is to develop of a critical approach to everyday life phenomena affected by cognitive processes, and individuate the most adequate research method to investigate and improve human performances
Risultati apprendimento attesi
At the end of the course, the student will be able to apply a critical approach on human behaviour and performance, developing a research protocol on the application of cognitive psychology in real life events.
The student will be able to recognize the influence of cognitive processes in work- and everyday life phenomena. The student will be able to describe how cognitive process can be applied not only to read and explain the real context, but how to use such knowledge to improve it.

o Introduction to applied cognitive psychology.
o Distinctive characteristics of applied research and main differences with basic research.
o Development of a research protocol in applied cognitive psychology
o Cognitive psychology applied to the field of reasoning and decision making
o How to think about weird and irrational events. The paranormal, the supernatural and the mysterious.
o Naturalistic Decision-Making
o Virtual reality and its applications
o Cognitive psychology applied to the field of testimony
o Techniques to improve learning
o The effects of drugs and sports on cognitive processes
Prerequisiti
There are no prerequisites to be admitted to the course. However, the knowledge and skills acquired during the courses of cognitive psychology, methodology of cognitive research and data analysis are useful.

Lectures, presentation of multimedia materials and seminars related to cognitive psychology.
Open discussion and critical analysis in class of relevant scientific phenomena closely related to course's contents

Modalità di verifica dell’apprendimento e criteri di valutazione
The assessment of adequate learning process and acquisition of knowledge takes place in two modalities:
- final written exam, with multiple choice and open ended questions
- development of a research protocol on cognitive psychology
The written exam contributes to the final vote with a proportion of 50%, while the research protocol contributes with a proportion of 50%.
The exam is considered passed if the student has achieved a minimum score of 18 points
The enrollment to examination will be through the UNIMIA portal.
Criteria for evaluation include
- Critical capacity to elaborate on a scientific question linked to the contents of the course
- Acquired capability to analyse scientific aspects and prepare a formal scientific presentation
- Knowledge and critical analysis of the main applications of the cognitive psychology research
