Obiettivi formativi
The course aims at introducing students to the main international instruments regulating States' environmental policies. Case studies, international conventions and declarations will provide a deep overview of States' practices and will offer the necessary tools for a proper knowledge and understanding of the leading literature by international scholars.
Risultati apprendimento attesi
At the end of the course, students will have a thorough understanding of the main international instruments regulating States' policies concerning key environmental issues.

Programma
At first, the course will set up the conceptual framework to deal with environmental law issues. The main characteristics of environmental problems and the protection models of the environment will be discussed.
The juridical qualification of the environment will be then assessed and the main sources and principles of environmental law will be examined in reference to concrete examples.
Lastly, specific environmental issues and administrative procedures will be examined, by analyzing examples of concrete solution of environmental problems.

No preliminary competences are required to attend this course

Regular attendance is highly recommended. Concrete cases and relevant materials will be discussed and commented in class

The final exam is oral and is assessed in thirtieths.

For both attending and non-attending students, to take the exam it is necessary to demonstrate ability in mastering the relevant norms.
Students must show capacity to organize the juridical knowledge and to critically reason on the topics dealt with; the quality of the exposition and the competence in the use of the specialized vocabulary will be evaluated.

For non-attenders, the study of the textbook is required. Preparation based exclusively on slides/other materials found on Ariel will not be considered sufficient to pass the exam.

Attending students may take the exam through the presentation of a case study resulting from group research. However, evaluation of the presentations will be conducted on the basis of knowledge and ability to apply the information contained in the textbook.
