Obiettivi formativi
The "Plants as Biofactories" course teaches molecular biology as it applies to plants. Its main goal is to help students understand how plants can be used as sustainable biofactories. Ultimately, students will learn to analyze and apply advanced biotechnological solutions to tackle difficult problems in the plant-based circular bioeconomy. Contribution to Course Objectives. This course contributes to the achievement of the degree program's objectives by : Designing and implementing strategies for the production of secondary metabolites, biomass, and other molecules of interest through plant genetic engineering; Evaluating and proposing biotechnological solutions to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture, promoting more sustainable and circular practices.; Understanding the technological complexity inherent in the use of plants in bioeconomic contexts, from the lab to industrial scale application; Formulating innovative projects that integrate plant molecular biology knowledge with the needs of the bioeconomic sector, identifying opportunities and challenges.

Expected learning outcomes for the "Plants as Biofactories" course. Knowledge and Understanding. Students will have a comprehensive understanding of: Fundamental principles of plant molecular biology; The potential of plants as sustainable platforms for producing valuable compounds; Strategies for enhancing biomass production and modifying plant composition ; The role of plant-based biotechnology in addressing environmental challenges. Applying Knowledge and Understanding: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: Design basic genetic engineering strategies ; Analyze and interpret molecular biology data ; Identify suitable plant systems and biotechnological approaches ; Propose innovative solutions . Making Judgements Students will develop critical thinking and judgment skills through: Active participation in technical workshops; Analysis and interpretation of experimental data; Formulation and defense of project proposals ; Critical review of case studies and real-world applications; Engaging in discussions and debates. Communication Skills. Students will enhance their communication skills by:Presenting their technical workshop projects; Participating actively in team-based discussions; Developing and delivering a comprehensive written report; Engaging in question-and-answer sessions.
