Learning objectives
Knowledge and understanding: students will be required to use cultural studies methodologies in order to highlight and understand the relationships between culture, discursive strategies, social phenomena, mass communication, production and consumption of cultural products, and to analyze them from the perspective of ideology and their social, spatial, historical and political contexts. The analysis will consider written as well as visual texts in English and students will be required to know the texts thoroughly. The texts will be selected according to the course themes. MA courses are meant for qualitative, more than quantitative, study and tends to privilege a limited number of texts that must be read and analyzed with sophisticated skills.
Applying knowledge and understanding: besides contextualizing and analyzing the texts of the syllabus, students will be also required to situate them within a documented critical perspective, and to do so through an analytical process tackling the syntagmatic as well as paradigmatic dimensions.
Making judgments: students will be required to develop a well-structured critical insight into the texts and their relation to the cultural and in some cases literary background in order to reach in-depth knowledge of the country in which the language they study is spoken.
Expected learning outcomes
Communication skills: students will be required to write and speak in correct and comprehensible English about the topics analyzed in the course by using an adequate critical lexicon.
Learning skills: students will be required to enhance an autonomous approach by improving the study method acquired in their BA courses in terms of greater critical Independence.
