L'obiettivo del corso è quello di fornire le conoscenze necessarie alla comprensione a livello molecolare della struttura e della funzione delle principali biomolecole, ivi comprese le macromolecole biologiche, e dei principali processi biologici presenti nelle cellule animali, con particolare riferimento a quelli coinvolti nel metabolismo delle molecole di importanza nutrizionale.

Enzymes, mechanism and regulation of enzyme action. Zymogen (2 hours)
Molecular mechanism of digestion, absorption and transport of biomolecules (2 hours)
Metabolism and bioenergetics(2 hours)
Carbohydrates metabolism: glycolysis, pentose phosphate pathway, glycogen, gluconeogenesis, synthesis of lactose (4 hours)
TCA cycle and oxidative phosphorylation (2 hours)
Fatty acid catabolism and lipid biosynthesis. Ketone bodies. Cholesterol metabolism (4 hours)
Amino acid metabolism, ammonia metabolism and urea cycle (2 hours)
Nucleotides: purinies and pyrimidines metabolism (2 hours)
Metabolic integration and intra-extra cellular regulation (2 hours)
Nucleic acids and biological function. Genetic code. DNA replication, transcription, gene expression and protein synthesis (10 hours)
