German Culture I

Learning objectives
The course intends to highlight some of the most significant aspects of German culture, related to its reception of antiquity and classical culture. Analysing several documents (texts, videos, pictures, movies, etc.) will be depicted the manners of reception of classical culture - in particular Greek culture - in terms of both recurring concepts and stereotypes, and involved political implications.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will learn to use the method of a discriminating approach in order to deconstruct and reconstruct the manners of perception of the other, to recognise the schemes of representation and diffusion of stereotypes - being able to identify signs of continuity and discontinuity with the past -, to analyse intercultural relationships and their social and political implications.
