Learning objectives
The aim of the teaching is to acquire the advanced, epistemological, clinical, methodological and evidence based nursing capacity of:
- knowledge analysis and development in the nursing discipline;
- identification and application models for the evaluation of nursing theories to critically analyze them and define their potential for changing professional practice,
- analysis and evaluation clinical assistance methodology and identify evidence based results in responding to the needs of the assisted person;
- analysis and historical reconstruction of the evolution of nursing care thinking in different periods and in different cultures.
Expected learning outcomes
The student will critically analyze the historical and disciplinary evolution of nursing care in different periods and in different cultures, in order to guide the exercise of the advanced functions of the profession.
He will critically reflect on the methodology of clinical reasoning and its potential in making multidisciplinary decisions, in relation to complex health problems.
He will critically evaluate the disciplinary theories through appropriate assessment models for the intra and interprofessional definition of the potential changes in the practice.
It will critically assess health care choices, safeguarding the health of patients by developing evidence based perspectives for improvement

Characteristics of the nursing history research methodology
Droysen and Chabod's analysis in historical research
The development of different stages of nursing care and nursing history according to the following categories: who provides nursing care/ to whom it is performed/ the concept of nursing care and/or nursing care/ the place where it is performed
Definition of nursing history research projects according to social history methodology
Analysis of the historical path of nursing care with inferences of external and internal history
Professionalisation of the nurse and critics of professionalisation in relation to social developments and new needs of the assisted persons
Epistemology and approaches to scientific knowledge
The nursing discipline: levels of theories, method, investigation procedures,
Critical evaluation of nursing theories according to different models and in relation to evidence in practical application
Clinical nursing methods and methodology
Classifications of nursing and healthcare languages
The theoretical, clinical and research perspectives of nursing care as a science
Prerequisites for admission
There are no prerequisites except for the admission test.
