Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with: i) the knowledge of the organization of cells and organisms as complex adaptive systems subject to Darwinian evolution; ii) structure-function relationship in living beings and the molecular bases of the regulation of genetic information; iii) the concepts of continuity and variability of genetic information in living organisms; iv) modes of transmission of inherited traits, the mechanisms underlying genetic diseases and diagnostic tools for their detection.
Expected learning outcomes
Students: i) know the fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying genetic and epigenetic control of cells and organisms; ii) know the male and female gametogenesis, highlighting biological and genetic differences and effects; iii) are able to describe the transmission of inherited traits and the mechanisms that regulate normal and pathological phenotypic variation in humans; iv) analyze and interpret the results of molecular and genetic tests in clinical practice.
