Learning objectives
The practical training is aimed at ascertaining the student's abilities related to knowing "how to do" and "how to be" a doctor. This consists in applying biomedical and clinical knowledge to medical practice, in resolving ethical issues, in demonstrating aptitude to solve clinical problems related to the areas of local medicine and related specialties and to apply the principles of good and clear communication.

Certification of attendance and evaluation is under the direct responsibility of the general practitioner, responsible of the structure attended by the trainee.
Expected learning outcomes
The student can be able to:
- put into practice the principles of the patient-doctor relationship;
- obtain medical history and perform a physical examination in the outpatient context;
- know and apply the clinical reasoning;
- interpret the laboratory exams and the medical reports of the diagnostic imaging examinations;
- be able to demonstrate the skills of prevention and sanitary education;
- know the National Healthcare System and Local Healthcare System.

Course syllabus and organization

Course syllabus
· Medical history collection and physical examination of the patient in an outpatient and home setting
· Differential diagnosis between the main pathologies related to the clinical case
· Formulation of diagnostic hypotheses with the identification of further first level investigations in order to define the nature of the case
· Participation in the decision-making process to identify the reasons for the request for help and the nature and priority of the problem
· Evaluation of emergencies and the need for hospitalization
· Compilation and/or updating the patients' medical record
· Interpretation of laboratory tests
· Interpretation of diagnostic imaging test reports
Prerequisites for admission
The student must have passed all the exams of the integrated courses of the first four years of the CdS in Medicine and Surgery as per regulations
Teaching methods
The internship takes place through frequency in the general practitioners' clinics, including home visits and discussion of clinical cases

The internship is considered passed if the student obtains an assessment of suitability from the internship tutor and the area coordinator
