Course syllabus
Using a comparative approach, this course will illustrate the fundamental elements of the Islamic Law, highlighting, if necessary, affinities and differences both with regard to other religious laws and to civil laws. In this perspective the founding principles, the nature and the purpose of the main institutes of the Islamic law will be analysed, especially with regards to the sources of law, to make the students able to navigate critically the issues posed by the multicultural and contemporary society.
Prerequisites for admission
A level of general culture and legal culture is required to understand the notions of Islamic Law and to grasp, in particular, peculiarities and differences of this particular religious system compared to secular ones.
Teaching methods
The lessons, mainly frontal, will also include in-depth seminars.

Didactic materials will be distributed during classes or made available on Ariel platform.
Assessment methods and Criteria
At the end of the course, a multiple choices text will be held to verify the students' skills.
