Learning objectives
The course provides knowledge in the physiology of the endocrine system, organs involved, hormone secretion, and common acquired and congenital endocrine-metabolic disorders. The course also includes general principles of the use and interpretation of noninvasive methods for studying metabolism.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will acquire general knowledge of the physiology of the endocrine system, knowledge in identifying the anatomy and function of endocrine organs and their activity in health and illness; the role that individual organs and tissues play in nutrient metabolism in normal conditions, during fasting, prolonged fasting, postprandial period, during acute exercise, and after training.

Prerequisites for admission
The course aims to provide the general principles at the basis of the pathogenesis and development of common endocrine and metabolic disorders with a particular focus on diabetes and its complications. It also provides an overview of the treatments and diagnostic procedures employed.
