Learning objectives
The main topic of the class is to understand the morphology and phyiology of woody plants, their origin, the distribution of their production and commercial uses of cultivated fruit, wood and ornamental trees.
Expected learning outcomes
The skills acquired in the "Fruit Tree Production" class are the planning and management of fruit tree farms, nurseries, ornamentals, gardens, urban parks.

CFU I. Morphology, anatomy and architecture of woody plants: roots, stem, branches, leaves, flowers and fruits. CFU II. The annual and life cycle of woody plants: juvanility, maturity, senescence. Phenology bud dormancy, sprouting, primary and secondary growth, flowering, fruit growth and ripening. CFU III. Premininary analysis of the planting site: how soil and climate will affect plant growth? CFU IV. Species selection for fruit and timber arboriculture. Planting and management techniques: irrigation, fertilization, soil management. CFU V. Pruning woody plants: best management practices. CFU VI Breeding of fruit trees. CFUs VII and VIII-Field activities: morphology of woody plants. Poplar cultivation. Pruning of fruit trees. Visit to experimental farms.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam is made of two separate parts. The first one will deal with the topics of the first semester (6 CFU). It will be written exam made of 6 open questions asking about the theory of arboricultulture, as well as investigating to capacity to solve basic practical issues of arboriculture. An optional short oral exam (1 open question on a random topic chosen from the program) can follow the written exam. The second part will be an oral exam dealing with the topics learnt in the last 2 CFU.
