Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive outline of the literature on visual art, acknowledging its intrinsically interdisciplinary features.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: Knowledge of the sources on the history of art, in their broadest meaning: from treatises to literary and archival sources, etc.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Development of a critical thinking; acquisition of basic critical tools to deal with sources and to seek, recognize, understand and decode them.

The course is aimed primarily at students of the Cultural Heritage course (9 credits)


Presentation of the course
Giovanni Testori (1923-1993), pupil sui generis of Roberto Longhi, was one of the most significant characters of Italian culture in the second half of the twentieth century. His interests ranged from literature to visual arts. He was also a painter, actor and director. The course aims to provide some survey examples, with particular reference to art criticism texts, crucial for the re-evaluation of Lombard and Piedmontese figurative culture from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century.
Prerequisites for admission
Knowledge of the basic concepts of historical chronology and main movements of Italian and European literature and culture is recommended. Classes are in Italian language

The lessons take place in the classroom, through reading exercises and examining some images

Assessment methods and Criteria
Oral: The oral test, which takes place in Italian, consists of an interview on the topics presented in class and on the required readings. An essential condition to pass the exam is the knowledge of the Italian language.
