Learning objectives
Il corso offre un quadro dell'Europa centro-orientale, con particolare riguardo ai Paesi slavi, fornendo gli essenziali elementi geografici, cartografici, storici e storiografici per collocare in una prospettiva transculturale e transnazionale i processi di sviluppo sociale, economico e politico propri di quell'area in età moderno-contemporanea.
Expected learning outcomes
Al termine del corso lo studente avrà acquisito la conoscenza dei principali avvenimenti della storia dell'Europa centro-orientale e dei Paesi slavi fra XIX e XX secolo (con i debiti rimandi a periodi immediatamente precedenti o successivi) delle principali interpretazioni storiografiche di cui sono stati oggetto. Avrà contezza dello svolgimento politico-istituzionale, socioeconomico e culturale dell'area considerata, riuscendo a collocare gli eventi e le figure più rappresentative nei loro contesti cronologici e geografici. Lo studente sarà in grado di utilizzare strumenti linguistici (proprietà di linguaggio, corretto lessico specifico) adeguati a esprimere, in forma chiara ed efficace, concetti di carattere politico, istituzionale, economico, culturale e religioso; saprà leggere criticamente opere storiografiche e utilizzare i principali strumenti, anche informatici, per la ricerca e l'analisi delle fonti. Queste competenze saranno acquisite tramite un confronto diretto e continuativo con il docente in aula; la discussione intorno alle fonti proposte costituirà inoltre un momento di riflessione critica e di apprendimento metodologico. Grande importanza rivestirà anche la partecipazione a seminari e incontri proposti all'interno delle attività del Dipartimento di studi storici. Gli studenti non frequentanti potranno avvalersi degli strumenti didattici messi eventualmente a disposizione dal docente su Ariel, approfondire gli argomenti principali tramite apposite letture concordate con il docente, e ovviamente confrontarsi con il docente stesso sia via mail sia durante gli orari di ricevimento.

Title of the course: The Slavs in the Great Empires between 19th and 20th Century. Economic, cultural and political aspirations.
Module 1: General Outline of History of Eastern Europe from the Balkans to Russia (1815-1919).

Prerequisites for admission
There are no specific requirements different from those requested for the degree admission.
Teaching methods
Attendance to classes is strongly recommended although not compulsory. The teaching is delivered through frontal lectures aimed primarily at the acquisition of knowledge, competence and specific language of the subject. Discussion with the teacher in the classroom is integrant part of the didactic method and aims at promoting a critical attitude and the capacity to apply the acquired competence and knowledge.
The teaching is also based on didactic and multimedia material provided on Ariel.
In addition to frontal lectures, team works and/or individual presentations are envisaged.
