Medical Pathology
A.Y. 2019/2020
Learning objectives
- Knowing elements of general pathology and general pathophysiology
- Knowing elements of cardiovascular and respiratory physiopathology
- Developing knowledge to analyze the causes (etiology) and mechanisms (pathogenesis) that contribute to the onset of the diseases
- Knowing elements of diagnostic-clinical pathology and laboratory methodology in cytology, cytopathology, immunohematology and genetic pathology
- Understanding the diagnostic laboratory approach to the main pathological conditions
- Knowing the diagnostic-clinical aspects in reproductive medicine

- Knowing the diagnostic-clinical aspects in reproductive medicine
Expected learning outcomes
The course aims to provide the necessary knowledge for understanding the causes of human diseases and the fundamental pathogenetic mechanisms at the cell and tissue levels. At the end of the course the students will have a good knowledge of aetiology and pathogenesis with particular reference to the main genetic diseases, the various forms of the inflammatory process, the damage, the main alterations of the immune system, and the tumors. The course gives the knowledge of clinical biomarkers use in clinical practice. The students will have the acquaintance of the main biomarkers currently approved in Laboratory Medicine to discriminate the health state than a pathological status and its development. The students will also have learned the main diagnostic tools and clinical exams used to identify the health state from prenatal phase to the childhood.
