Course syllabus
Definitions and basic concepts of perimetry: CV limits, luminance, threshold, retinal sensitivity, spatial summation, temporal summation, receptive fields, Troxler phenomenon, sensory recruitment.
Most common examination methods: CV for comparison, Amsler test, Goldmann perimetry, standard computerized automatic perimetry (static and kinetic), main non-conventional CVC methods.
Patterns, threshold strategies (full, rapid and ultra-fast) and over-threshold (1LT, 2LT).
The reliability of the perimetric outcome: evaluation criteria, causes of unreliability, artifacts.
Interpretation of perimeter results according to Goldmann: blind spot (complement phenomenon), scotomas and isopteric deficits.
Interpretation of standard PAC outcomes: perimetric indices, deviation and probability maps, Glaucoma Hemifield Test, Bebié curve. Damage staging (GSS).
Main pathologies, ocular and systemic, capable of affecting the integrity of the CV, and the types of perimetry, programs and strategies most suitable for testing them.
Outline of programs for medico-legal purposes (binocular Esterman grid; Zingirian-Gandolfo binocular% CV; "weighted" CV%).
Optimization of the CV exam: orthoptist's tasks before, during and after the CV exam.
