Learning objectives
The course aims to investigate the events of conservation and the restoration of works of art through observation and analysis the different methods of intervention during the centuries.
Expected learning outcomes
The course will provide the possibility to obtain the knowledge on historical and cultural events of restoration. The course will also provide the opportunity to approach of artworks with a different vision.

Course syllabus
The course includes a theoretical part dedicated to the evolution of the restoration's history, starting from the first reflections about the problem of preservation and conservation of artworks, until today. To analyze the profession of restorer and to have an idea of the changes in history, we'll focus on some significant figures.
The course includes a part focused on the activities of restoration and analyzed some cases study and examples of restoration on paintings belonging to public and private museums.
The course provides some lessons at the restoration studio that will allow to observe the work of art and the different steps of the restoration process. In this section we'll analyze the methodological choices and the information provided by scientific analysis.
The programme includes some lessons about artistic techniques and materials.
