Russian Culture Ii

In the course the following topics, among others, will be treated: the October Revolution; the institution of the new government and the first decrees; the Costituent Assembly; the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk; the red terror; the civil war; the war communism; the anti-bolshevik rebellions; the cultural and literary life after 1917; the art of the political poster. Apart from that, particular aspects of Soviet politics and culture in the 1920ies will be discussed: the New Economic Policy; the restructuring of the State; the consolidation of the Soviet regime; the struggle for the power in the Communist Party, the cultural situation in the 1920ies; the "philosophy steamer"; the main literary currents; the constructivism in art and photography; the development of literary theory; the Soviet cinema.
