Learning objectives
The course will treat some thematics concerning: the italian and the european legislation in the matter of environmental control and sustainability will be treated, together with the analytic approach to environmental control and evatuation techniques for estimate the sustainability of some industrial products.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will be able to draw up a project work on a specific topic, taking into account all factors for a complete evaluation of its environmental sustainability.

Course syllabus
The educational approach consists of frontal lessons and a project work regarding the deepening of a treatment plant for environmental pollutants . The oral exam will be based on the presentation of the project work and on the course program. The course program is divided in five topics related to Pollutants treatment plants, Environmental control and Environmental Sustainability. During the earliest lessons every student will be supported to choose the subject of the project work and a specific project plan will be developed to be discussed as a preliminary to the oral examination.

1. Historical approach to Environmental Management. Pollutants: definition and propagation in Environmental phases. The water footprint. The transformation of Organic and inorganic pollutants in the Environment: Reactions and Kinetics. Biotransformation and Biodegradation of organic compounds;
2. Otherview of the main Water Treatment Plants (Scheme and Processes): Biologic Waste Water Treatment, Chemical Waste Water Treatment, Drinking Water (or Sanitary Uses) Treatment Plants;
3. Otherview of the main Soil Treatment Plants (Scheme and Processes) and underground water treatment technologies: Isolation, Immobilization, Main Biological and Chemical soil remediation techs;
4. Legislation and Environmental Control. Introduction to EU Environmental laws. (Objectives, Instruments, Main laws, REACH). Introduction to US Environmental Laws. ISO Standard, ISO 14001, Management System, Processes, Certification;
5. Sustainability Management: Basic Principles, Sustainable Development Goal, Circular Economy, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Creation of Shared Value (CSV), Sustainability Strategic plan;
Prerequisites for admission
General knowledge in the field of Environmental Chemistry, bases of organic and inorganic Chemistry.

Class room lessons (and exercises), and asincronus lessons (commented slides) always at disposal of the students for all the course. The attendance the course is heartily welcomed.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The assessment method is an oral examination concerning the topics presented during the course, as an alternative to a written exam based on multiple-choice tests. Moreover, the student will present a project work. This project work, developed under the supervision of the professor and presented during the oral exam, will consist of a specific Environmental treatment plant designed in compliance with Environmental and Sustainability Regulations.
