Learning objectives
The course aims to illustrate the historical development of Western architecture from Middle Age to XX century. Specific moments and building will be presented as case-studies in relation with the theory and critic of architecture.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: Knowledge of Western architecture from Middle Age till today and of its connections with painting and sculpture.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Acquiring primary historical and critical skills and methods for the study, interpretation and analysis of architecture and for their contextualization.

Course syllabus and organization

Second semester
If the health emergency were to continue, the lessons will take place in mixed mode, partly in presence, with simultaneous broadcasting in streaming, and partly online, according to the schedule that will be published by the teacher on the Ariel course website.
Students will find all the information about classroom or online lessons, any changes to the program and any changes in the reference material (bibliography, etc.) on the Ariel teaching website at the beginning of the 2nd semester.
For the same reasons the exam can take place online, in the modality that will be communicated on the Ariel course website.
Course syllabus
Title: History of Western Architecture.

The course aims to introduce historically and critically the development of the history of Western architecture, with a focus on specific phases and buildings.

Parte A: Medieval Architecture
Parte B: Cross-readings of history of architecture
Parte C: Problems of contemporary architecture

- For a 6-CFU exam: choice of TWO teaching units.
Prerequisites for admission
Adequate mastering of Italian language and suitable knowledge of western Art History, form Medieval to Contemporary age.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The exam consists of an interview on the scheduled topics, aimed at verifying the student's knowledge, his critical thinking and speaking skills.
