Learning objectives
Knowledge and Understanding
The course aims to explore, according to a legal and institutional approach, the problem of human dignity, in the Italian legal system and under a comparative European and international perspective. The aim is to open students to a deep knowledge of the more relevant legal instruments and of the most important decision-making techniques adopted by the judges. First, the analysis will focus on the Italian legal system, the Italian Constitution and the constitutional jurisprudence. Particular attention will also be given to the European system, both to the European Union and the Charter of Fundamental Rights and to the Council of Europe and the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, under the perspective of the legislative texts and of the jurisprudence of the Courts of Luxembourg and Strasbourg. Particular attention is devoted to the international legal system and to some States which, in the comparative scenario, undoubtedly constitute a reference point. The Laboratory therefore intends to explore some of the most relevant and current problems of human dignity, in order to analyse also what may be their future developments.

Expected learning outcomes
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding.
The aim of the course is to make the student able to apply the main concepts of contemporary constitutionalism concerning human dignity to problems, questions and cases arising in different contexts, but requiring an increasingly homogeneous background.
Autonomy of judgment
The course aims to make students capable to form an autonomous interpretation, from the legal point of view, of political, institutional and social events concerning human dignity.
Communication skills
The course aims to make students capable to illustrate, even to non-specialist interlocutors, the main concepts of contemporary constitutionalism applied to the theme of human dignity, with properties of language and expository clarity.

Lessons will be held in the third quarter of 2020-2021, in Room 1, starting from 15 April 2021, every Thursday, from 15.30 to 17.30. If health conditions do not allow face-to-face lessons, the Laboratory will be postponed, presumably in the first quarter of the new academic year, once a classroom will be available.

each lesson will be organized like a conversation; after a brief introduction to the theme, a dialogue will take place starting from some themes, selected from the most complex and general, but also the most current and specific;

Assessment methods and Criteria
at the end of the laboratory, the preparation of an individual report will be asked, which may have as its object a single issue addressed in a lesson or some topics transversally analyzed
