Learning objectives
The course has the objective to give students the ability to collect patient's medical history (history taking), to perform a physical examination of adults and elder elderly, of both sexes, to discuss the main diagnostic issues and to propose the more common therapies.
Presentation, symptoms, signs, diagnosis (with differential), prevention and treatment of the main clinical syndromes of the following organ and systems are discussed:
- heart and cardiovascular system,
- lung,
- gastrointestinal system,
- kidney,
- endocrinology and diabetes mellitus,
- blood,
- main neoplasms,
- immune system, connective tissue and joints,
- some infectious diseases, such as mononucleosis, viral hepatitis, infective endocarditis.
Pluripathology and frailty is considered.
The main therapies are presented, including corticosteroid therapy and first level antibiotic therapies.
There is a special focus on specific aspects of clinical presentation, diagnosis, prevention and therapy.
The course has also the objective to give the student the ability to critically evaluate laboratory tests and imaging studies. The student acquires the relational abilities that are needed when speaking with parents.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is supposed to be able to make diagnostic hypotheses for the most important diseases of each different system, to know the differential diagnosis, the diagnostic procedures, including laboratory diagnosis and imaging, to propose therapies.

Course syllabus and organization

The lessons of the first semester will take place in mixed mode:
- in presence in the classroom with a limited number of students, who have booked themselves using Google Form and at the same time in synchrony through the "Teams platform" for students not present;
- the student is obliged to wear the surgical mask for the entire duration of his stay in the classroom and to sit in the free seats respecting the alternation of one occupied seat, one free seat, one occupied seat per single row;
- the lessons will also be video-recorded to allow students unable for documented needs to follow them in sync and made available on the teacher's Ariel / Teams website;
- the lessons will take place at the Vialba center as usual

Students must enter from the main atrium of the Lita Vialba teaching pavilion and undergo body temperature measurement using a Thermo-scanner. The entry / exit routes are differentiated and marked

Prerequisites for admission
The knowledge acquired in previous years will be useful for this course. In particular it is necessary to have acquired the knowledge of the following courses: PHARMACOLOGY, SYSTEM DISEASES, CLINICAL AND SURGICAL PATHOLOGY

Assessment methods and Criteria
At the end of the course the student is supposed to be able to make diagnostic hypotheses for the most important diseases of each different system, to know the differential diagnosis, the diagnostic procedures, including laboratory diagnosis and imaging, to propose therapies.
· Oral exam. There are no intermediate tests.
· Sessions: an exam session for each month, from September till July
· The candidate initially must evaluate and ECG, or an emogas or a panel of biochemical analyisis, and as a further step must answer to 2 open questions about the topics included in the course program.
· The knowledge of the specific topics of the course will be evaluated
· At the end of tests, the professor makes a final assessment of the student, that can include three cases:
1.the student is PASSED (the score is expressed in thirtieths, minimum score 18/30, highest score 30/30 with --honours)
2.the student is POSTPONED to the next exam date
3. the student is WITHDRAWN (The candidate has the right to withdraw from the oral exam at any time)
