Learning objectives
The course aims at providing students with general knowledge about:
i) the main forensic aspects of medical issues;
ii) the principles of forensic pathology and clinical forensic medicine;
iii) the Italian legislation as well as bioethics and the ethical code;
iv) the post-mortem alterations, certification, the estimation of time since death, identification, scene of crime, medical malpractice and social and private insurance.

Expected learning outcomes
The students know:
i) the tools for differential diagnosis of violence and of crimes against the person, to appropriately describe and interpret trauma;
ii) how to use the underlying principles of consent, medical liability, medical ethics and reporting.

In the first semester the lectures will take place as concurrent classroms:
·in the classroom with a limited number of students, who have previously booked using the "lezioniUnimi" app with the unimi e-mail account username and password; (https://www.unimi.it/it/studiare/frequentare-un-corso-di-laurea/seguire-il-percorso-di-studi/orari-delle-lezioni) and at the same time through the "Teams platform" for online students ;
· The student must wear a surgical mask for the entire duration of his/her stay in the classroom and to sit using every other free seat
· the lectures will be recorded and made available on the teacher's Ariel website for students with proven difficulties to connect during classes
· the lectures will take place at the San Paolo Hospital on the 3rd floor of Blocco C. Students must access classrooms via Blocco C and exit via the side blocks (students leaving Pauling and Fleming rooms towards Blocco B and students leaving Curie, Golgi and Pasteur rooms towards Blocco A).
Students must enter from the main hall (R floor) of the San Paolo hospital and undergo body temperature measurement by the infrared cameras. It is strongly recommended to use the stairs for classrooms entering and/or leaving.

· Birth, death and the evaluation of postmortem interval with elements of entomology and botany
· Medical records, certificates and other documents of medico legal interest
· Causal nexus and evidence based medicine

Prerequisites for admission
Basic knowledge of radiology, histology, dermatology, anatomy, traumatology, orthopedics, gynecology, surgical and clinical pathology
Teaching methods
The course will consist of standard lectures, seminars, case studies and a practical in the autopsy room. PPts and readings will be available on the Ariel site.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The examination is oral and includes a practical examination; there is a preappello at the end of the course usually in December with the same modality as the regular exam; no auxiliary material for the final examination is permitted; the results of the exam will be communicated at the end of the exam.
