Learning objectives
The aim of the PATOLOGY AND REPRODUCTION course is to provide students with the knowledge about the causes and mechanisms of the disease and the main defense systems of the animal organism and the for the proper management of the main aspects of reproduction and of artificial insemination in farm animals, with particular reference to comparative aspects among the different species.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course each student should be able to recognize and understand the causes and mechanisms of diseases and the principal defense systems of the organism and to use this information for management of animal welfare and reproduction. In addition, the student should be able to search for the proper sources and to critically evaluate them in order to solve issues in pathology and reproduction.
Course syllabus and organization

Single session

Responsible
Lesson period
First semester
In case of emergency phase the program of lectures won't be varied and lectures will be hold sinchronously via MS Teams with the same calendar. Practical part will be substituted by movies. Final examination will be substituted with an oral examination via MS teams
Prerequisites for admission
Fundamentals of biology, comparative anatomy, microbiology, infectious diseases and immunology.
Assessment methods and Criteria
A written examination with both open and multiple choice questions will be done aimed at ascertaining the acquisition of knowledge relating to the topics covered during the course both during the theoretical lessons and during the practical exercises.
The evaluation will be defined by using the weighted average, and the qualification will be scored applying a scale of 30/30th where the minimum to pass is considered 18 and the higher score is 30 cum laude.

The course is composed by a series of lectures on three main themes: Veterinary General Pathology, Veterinary Pathophysiology and Veterinary Immunopathology. A series of practical activities in laboratory and microscopical sessions, vision of some didactic movies and practical sessions on the use of databanks for solving problems in Pathology will complete the program.
Teaching Resources
Students will be provided, before the beginning of the course, of alla the slides projectied during the lectures added with some short text and further additional material. This material will be also available on Ariel platform.

Teaching methods
Attendance is strongly recommended for lectures and exercises.
Frontal lessons and laboratory exercises in small groups are given.
In the lectures, students are involved by stimulating their interest and encouraging them to participate by asking questions and asking to summarize parts already covered in the previous lessons.
In small group practical exercises, the student is guided to achieve autonomy in the manual skills necessary for the evaluation and treatment of gametes and of the instruments necessary to carry out the evaluation of semen and an artificial insemination.
