Learning objectives
The general objective is to provide students with the principles of public economic theory and applications and zooming in on the techniques for the economic appraisal and evalutaion of publicly-funded projects.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will have acquired the theoretical knowledge and the terminology of public economics and of cost-benefit analysis for the evaluation of public projects.
In particular, the student will be able to understand studies related to problems of public economics and economic evaluation of public projects, both through the reading and interpretation of graphs, data tables and reports of cost-benefit analyses of publicly-funded projects. The student will also be able to analytically set up and solve simple problems in public economics and calculate the main indicators used in the cost-benefit analyses.

Course syllabus
The first part of the course in Public Finance examines the role of the State in the economy, with a specific focus on welfare economics and the theory of public choice, public spending and economic effects of taxes.
The second part on Cost Benefit Analysis will introduce students to the evaluation of public investment and in general of programs and projects in the context of public policy.
