Teaching Workshop: Residential Laboratory On Local Agroecology and Regenerative Agroforestry: Methods and Practices

Within the framework of the necessary ecological reconversion of the economy linked to climate change and the proven unsustainability of the global development model, the agri-food sector plays a central role, both because it is one of the production sectors most strongly affected by the effects of climate change and because of its current inability to respond to the urgent need for environmental regeneration and social equity in pursuing food security.
Conventional intensive farming techniques, based on the massive use of chemical fertilizers and deep tillage, have in fact impoverished soils, making them increasingly less productive and eroding their ability to regenerate.
The concept of simple "sustainability" applied to agriculture is no longer sufficient to meet the global challenges of food security. It is increasingly necessary to find a new productive paradigm capable of producing for the regeneration of ecosystems and communities. The objective of the laboratory is to develop knowledge about agroecology and succession regenerative agroforestation practices.

At the end of the workshop the student will have to know the main concepts underlying agroecology and regenerative agroforestation, with particular reference to syntropic agriculture and its applications. The student will be able to experiment and acquire, through the hands on methodology, the practices and techniques of regenerative agroforestation.
