Chemico-Physical Methods for Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage
A.Y. 2021/2022
Learning objectives
Description of the material supports of the information: solid state, optical, magnetic and magneto-optical. Chemical and physical characterization and technical peculiarities of CD, DVD and Blue Ray Disc. Working principle of the optial sensor and description of the physical and informatics masterisation process. Investigation methods to characterize polymer and dye component as well as of the reflecting layer of the optical supports.
Temperature, humidity, mechanical and UV radiation stress tests and evaluation of the expected shelf life of the supports.
Conservation criteria and main restoration techniques
Temperature, humidity, mechanical and UV radiation stress tests and evaluation of the expected shelf life of the supports.
Conservation criteria and main restoration techniques
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course acquires a specific information about the main physico chemical methods that allow a characterization of the material Supports of the Information, which have peculiar properties and demand peculiar care for their conservation. The student acquires the awareness of the needed characterization of materials and the methods to evaluate, through an experimental approach, like stress tests and artificial aging, their expected shelf life.
