Learning objectives
The objectives of the course are to evaluate public health interventions with an economist's perspective, by relating needs, objectives and spending constraints. In addition, we want to present the economic approach to the evaluation of public policies, with particular attention to the health sector. Finally, we want to understand how the different institutional structures have an impact on health systems, and related public policies and programs, in different countries.
Expected learning outcomes
Students should be excpected to acquire, at the end of the course, the: ·Ability to understand the objectives and tools of public health policies and programs ·Ability to read and understand an economic evaluation of public health policies and programs. ·Ability to identify the necessary data and evaluation methods to be used to evaluate public health policies and programs.

Course syllabus
The following topics will be developed within the course:

· Public interventions in healthcare: logic and evaluation
· The evaluation of public policies and programs
· Eevaluation methods for health programs and policies

Prerequisites for admission

Teaching methods
Student involvement is enocuraged through active participation in classroom discussions,
drafting of individual and/or group papers with presentation of the results and critical discussion
of cases and examples drawn from economic current affairs.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The expected learning results will be ascertained through individual and/or group papers and presentations and a
final exam with the attribution of a mark out of thirty. The criteria for the evaluation of the oral
exam will take into account the correctness of the contents, the argumentative clarity and the
skills of critical analysis and reworking.
