Geothermal Energy
A.Y. 2021/2022
Learning objectives
The course aims to provide the student the basic and applicative concepts of the energy production by means of low-temperature geothermal sources (geoexchange). The course also provides the basics of groundwater flow and heat transport numerical modeling in aquifers resulting from the use of geo-exchangers. The course also analyzes heat exchange processes highlighting the geological parameters that influence the yield, use and management of geothermal systems.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge of the basic and applicative concepts related to the energy production by means of low-temperature geothermal sources and heat exchange processes in the aquifer, depending on the hydrogeological conditions and on the characteristics design of geothermal systems. Being able to reproduce groundwater flow and heat transport numerical models in aquifers resulting from the use of geothermal exchangers by means of MODFLOW and MT3DMS codes.
