Phenomenology and Hermeneutics

Learning objectives
This aim of this course is investigating the questions that revolve around the general area of theoretical philosophy, with particular attention to the phenomenological and hermeneutical perspectives; it also addresses the multiple interpretations of individual and social experiences in relation to other disciplines, and investigates the different philosophical theories critically and conceptually.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding
- knowledge of the issues pertaining to phenomenology and hermeneutics in their respective and recent developments, as well as the capacity to evaluate the results obtained critically
- development of a critical awareness of the methods of philosophical enquiry in its different forms, especially in its possibility of deriving observations from other disciplines, whether these may belong to the sciences or not
Ability to apply Knowledge and Understanding
- the ability to apply the knowledge and skills acquired, including those assimilated outside of the thematic tropes dealt with during the course as well as exceeding the boundaries of philosophy as a discipline
- the ability to grapple with the different methods of philosophical enquiry critically and to apply them to new problems, even those which are not strictly philosophical
