Learning objectives
- Know the principles and rules relating to hospital hygiene, prevention and control of hospital and community infections;
- Know the basic rules to preserve and promote the health of the individual and of the communities;
- Know the rules and practices to maintain and promote health in the workplace, identifying situations of specialist competence;
- Acquire the ability to evaluate epidemiological data and learn about its use for health promotion and disease prevention in the individual and in the community;
- Acquire the ability to use in an appropriate way information, training and health education methodologies;
- Acquire the ability to participate in the identification of health needs of interest to the pediatric nurse profession;
- Deepen the knowledge of infection prevention and control techniques in clinical nursing care.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will have to be able to know and understand the hygienic-preventive sciences regarding health determinants, risk factors, individual and collective prevention strategies, interventions aimed at promoting the safety of health workers and users.

Prerequisites for admission
This is a first year exam, first semester, so there are no specific prerequisites different from those required for access to the degree course.

-Introduction to Occupational Medicine: historical outline, objectives, primary, secondary, tertiary prevention, definition of hazard and risk, work accident and occupational disease, main groups of risk factors
Musculoskeletal syndromes and hospital work: occupational and non-occupational risk factors, pathogenic mechanisms, legislation, hospital risk assessment, prevention strategies, with particular reference to patient movement
Occupational allergies with particular reference to skin allergies and irritative dermatopathies. Main risk factors in a hospital environment. Latex allergies. Etiopathogenetic mechanisms. Prevention
Use of antiblastic drugs: risky maneuvers, ways of prevention in the various phases of exposure and potential health effects
Ionizing and non-ionizing radiation: description of risks in the hospital setting, prevention, and effects
- Occupational injuries and Accident : Frequency, severity, and incidence. Description of the main risk factors
Risks from anesthetic gases in operating rooms: causes of pollution and main health effects. Legislation and prevention.
Risks from detergents, disinfectants, sterilizers. In particular Formaldehyde, Glutaraldehyde, Ethylene oxide
Risks of work at VDT (Video Display Terminal)
Occupational cancer. Characteristics, etiopathogenetic mechanisms. Description of the main carcinogenic substances and legislation.
Risk assessment. Biological risk in a hospital environment.
Environmental and biological monitoring: reference values (e.g. TLV) and indicators of dose, effect and susceptibility
