Learning objectives
The course has the aim to provide basic knowledge on epidemiology, prevention and control of zoonotic diseases of livestock and poultry and information on emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases at national and EU level.

The didactic and bibliographic material will be available in electronic format on the ariel platform

The assessment of learning will be carried out through an interview aimed at assessing knowledge on the main zoonoses. If the health situation does not allow it, the oral exam will take place using the Microsoft Teams platform.
Course syllabus
It provides students knowledge of epidemiology, diagnosis and control measures of viral and bacterial zoonotic diseases of livestock to assure the safety of animal husbandry and production for human health. Up-to-date national and EU information on emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases.

Lectures on :
Zoonoses classification and basic notions on epidemiology (3 h)
EFSA annual report (1 h)
Bacterial zoonotic diseases (6 h)
Viral zoonotic diseases (4 h)
Emerging zoonoses (2 h)

Practical teaching on :
Biological samples collection and handling (6 h)
OIE, IIZZSS, EFSA, ECDC, Promed-mail (3 h)
Discussion of case studies (7 h)

Classification of zoonoses and related legislation (2 h)
General information on viral diseases of avian species (Avian Influenza) (2 hours)
General information on zoonotic bacterial diseases of avian species (salmonellosis, campylobacteriosis, yersiniosis and chlamydiosis) (7 hours)
General information on zoonotic diseases in lagomorphs (Pseudotubercosi, Encephalitozoonosis, dermatophytes) (3 hours)
Organization of the control in poultry industry (2 hours)

Practical teaching on:
Analysis methods, sample selection and preparation of culture media (10 hours)
Sampling of biological material in a necropsy room (6 hours)
