Learning objectives
The course aims for the acquisition of in-depth, autonomous analysis skills of Ancient Greek texts, from a linguistic stylistic and rhetorical point of view. Particular attention will be paid to their originality, their historical and poetic or prosaic context and to the theory of literary genres.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge: students are expected to acquire a thorough knowledge of Ancient Greek, its historical developments as well as its dialectal peculiarities, building upon the knowledge acquired during the B.A. program and referring to up-to-date scholarly literature.

Skills: students are expected to develop autonomous research skills as a preparatory work to the M.A. thesis, based on linguistic fluency and knowledge of the vocabulary of the discipline.

International or incoming Erasmus students are invited to contact the professor in charge of the course.
Prerequisites for admission
The course is addressed to MA students. A good knowledge of ancient Greek language, classical philology, linguistics and Greek literature is a prerequisite.
Teaching methods
Both lectures and active partecipation by students. The Ariel course site will be actively used in teaching practice.
Constant attendance at lessons is highly recommended.
Teaching Resources
Please note that one of the educational objectives of the course is to introduce students to the knowledge and competent use of specialized bibliography. During the lessons, therefore, synthetic bibliographical information offered here will be supplemented and extended, also reporting any additional readings for the exam.

Assessment methods and Criteria
Oral exam, including a short translation at first sight from Ancient Greek. The evaluation is out of thirty.
The examination methods for students with disabilities and / or specific learning disorders will be concordated, in agreement with the competent office.
