Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to increase the main characteristics of the French language in a theoretical and applied perspective. In particular, the course will introduce practical notions in French lexicology and lexicography. Particular attention will be paid to lexical strategies through the analysis of economic, tourist, sociological and anthropological texts in line with the objectives of the degree course. The course also aims to strengthen written skills related to the preparation of professional texts (letters, e-mails, compte-rendu) and to improve communication skills by preparing and exposing brief considerations related to the texts studied. Only students who have completed the French language course 1 can follow French language course II.
Expected learning outcomes
The exit level is set at B2 plus of the CEFR.
By the end of the course, students will have developped the most important linguistic skills (in particular listening and oral production) to deal with intercultural communicative situation.
Students will therefore be capable of paraphrasing and summarizing B2-level texts while also taking into consideration existing cultural differences.

Course syllabus
The course is composed by lectures (main course= corso principale/monografico) and a cycle of language classes in order to improve language skills (esercitazioni).
The aim of this course is the knowledge and the understanding of the most important operating principles of the written and oral codes and the morphosyntactic and lexical features of the French language. This course will apply the knowledge learned through the comparison with original and representative texts (cultural, economical and social texts).
The first module addresses the study of the principal morphosyntactic aspects of the French language.
The second module will present an overview of the main lexicographic tools in use in the Francophone space. In particular, the different types of existing dictionaries and their structure will be analyzed.
The third module will present an introduction to the study of specialty texts in a lexical and syntactic perspective

Prerequisites for admission
In order to take the exam of Lingua Francese 2, students have to pass the Lingua Francese 1 exam.
Teaching methods
Lectures (corso monografico) are based on frontal teaching and aim to the consolidation of morphosyntactic strcutures, of vocabulary and of syntax. In order to strengthen written and oral abilities, students will also be asked to actively take part to the lessons by working on specific exercises.
Language classes for practical exercises target the learning and maintenance of morphosyntactic structures; they are also conceived to initiate students to written production and to develop linguistic and communicative skills. For practical exercises, students are divided into three groups, over the whole academic year. Students who have attended up to 2/3 of the lessons are allowed to take two partial exams. Examination modalities will be defined after assessment of the sanitary situation

Assessment methods and Criteria
Students' evaluation will take into account the development of judgment abilities in the analysis of the analyzed texts as well as the skills acquired in oral and written expression.
The final exam is composed by a written test (a) and an oral one (b). Both of them are mandatory:
a) the written test, aimed to assess the ability to apply language skills to written texts (level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), includes:
-a dictation test and short written production
-a grammar test
-a vocabulary test (prepare the whole textbook Alter EGO B2)
There are two intermediate tests concerning grammar skills and reserved for students who have attended at least 2/3 of the lessons. The modalities with which the intermediate tests will take place will be defined later.
IMPORTANT:
1) ONLY students who pass the first test will be able to access the second intermediate test.
2) The intermediate tests will be considered valid ONLY if both marks are positive.
3) Students who do not attend or who have not passed the inter-medium tests (or one of the two tests) will instead take the complete test in one of the three sessions scheduled for the written exams during the academic year (May, September, January ).
4) Attending students who have obtained a sufficient mark in the sum of the marks of the intermediate tests, on the day of the written test, will only take the written production test.
5) Students who, as of September 26, 2022, have only the mark of the written test of French Language I must imperatively pass the oral test by the session of February 2023. Otherwise, the intermediate tests of French Language II will be canceled.
6) Students who decide not to accept the overall mark resulting from the partial exams are required to retake the four parts of the test in one of the three dates scheduled for the written final exam within the academic year.
b) the oral exam aims to assess the linguistic and communicative skills as well as the ability to apply theoretical and methodological tools of the main course to selected texts. It consists of an interview conducted in French on the content of the lectures, in order to verify the knowledge acquisition and the linguistic competence.
N.B. Students have to succeed in the written exam before taking the oral one. None of the exams of the Lingua Francese 2 course can be taken before having passed the Lingua Francese 1 exam.
