Learning objectives
The course, which in its monographic part is in common with German Language 1 LM, aims to introduce the concepts of language variation and language contact for the German language. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with the fundamental concepts of variational linguistics, recognise the features of the language varieties presented and use corpora for linguistic analyses. In the language exercises, they will reach language level C2 of the CEFR.
Expected learning outcomes
Knowledge and Comprehension:
At the end of the course, students will be able to give an oral report or write a term paper on a chosen topic of German linguistics, they will be able to construct a corpus of specialised texts and to analyse it, and they will be familiar with the software necessary for constructing and analysing corpora.
Students will further consolidate their linguistic competence in the areas of language production, reception, interaction and mediation. The aim of the course, supplemented by exercises, is to achieve a secure mastery of structures and vocabulary corresponding to CEFR level C2.

Course title: Sprachvariation im Deutschen (Linguistic Variation in German)
The course is annual and provides 9 ECTS. The course contains a module of an international joint course, part C, in which students will collaborate with students and teachers from partner 4EU+ universities.

Unit B (20 hours, 3 ECTS; second semester ): Sprachliche Variation im Deutschen (Linguistic Variation in German, Prof. Christine Arendt)
Unit C (20 hours, 3 ECTS, second semester): Einführung in die Korpuslinguistik (Introduction to Corpus linguistic, Prof. Carolina Flinz)
The course, held entirely in German, is intended for students in their second year of the Master's Degree Course in European and Non-European Languages and Literature who have chosen German as their A or B language. It takes place over two semesters and is divided into two parts: a monographic one in three parts (I and II semester: 20 + 40 hours) and one of the practical language exercises that begin in the first semester and last one year.
The course program runs until September 2024.
The monographic part, which is conducted in German and is in common with the German Language 1 LM, consists of three parts that aim to introduce the phenomena of linguistic variation in the German language due to language contact or cultural-historical phenomena, as well as Specialised languages and their documentation through Corpora.
The monographic part is accompanied by exercises (4 hours per week) with a native speaker expert.

Prerequisites for admission
This course is held in German and requires language skills at a minimum CEFR level C1.
Teaching methods
The course adopts the following teaching methods: lectures and seminars, and face-to-face activities with active student participation (oral reports). In addition, the course is supplemented by tutorials (Esercitazioni linguistiche), for which please refer to the appropriate sheet.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The examination consists of a written test (based on the exercise classes) and written and/or oral tests for the monographic part, all compulsory and marked in thirtieths. The mark for the Lingua examination will be a single one and will take into account the results of all the tests. T
