Learning objectives
The course aims to provide in-depth preparation on the method of philological investigation, applied to texts in the vernacular of all ages, and in particular to literary texts. The course also aims to make students aware of the evolution of a text within the history of Italian culture.

Fundamental concepts of the Lachmannian method.
The different types of innovation (indicative error; indifferent readings; contamination; diffraction).
The different types of editions (diplomatic; interpretative; critical). The different types of critical apparatus (negative or positive).
Skills
Critical ability in the historical interpretation of the texts.
Ability to hierarchize relations between witnesses.
Ability to place the single witness in the linguistic-literary context.
Ability, in the case of Author's Philology, to relate documents with other works by the author.
Mastery of bibliographic and methodological tools

Parte A e B (40h, 6cfu): I Canti di Giacomo Leopardi.
The course investigates the genesis and formation of Leopardi's Canti, from the first songs of 1818 to the edition of 1835, through the original manuscripts and prints.
Parte C (20h, 3 cfu).
The course reconstructs the textual history of Dela Casa Rime's through the manuscript and the first edition by E. Gemini (1558).

Assessment methods and Criteria
The oral exam will evaluate the ability to organize the speech, to critically present the subject matter, the precise knowledge on the usual scale of thirty; terminological competence in the use of specific vocabulary.
