Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with an overview of occupational diseases and their prevention and, when necessary, reporting to the authorities and to the National Institute for Insurance against accidents at work (INAIL). The legislative aspects will also be discussed, along with the criteria and data that have guided the legislator in relation to medicine, hygiene and safety at the workplace in Italy and Europe. The concepts of accidents and occupational diseases, the main occupational diseases present in our country, and the general principles of the prevention of such events will be presented. Specific information will be offered on the legislation in force in the sector and on the methods of application in the workplace. Specific aspects such as new or emerging issues will be highlighted and discussed.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student who has successfully followed the lectures will have acquired specific knowledge on all the aspects of occupational medicine of legal interest. Learning outcomes will include the legal fault of doctor, employer and worker with respect to occupational diseases and occupational accidents, to all the diverse aspects concerning the practical application of the Italian Legislation, general and specific (ionizing radiation; pregnancy; organization of the company first aid system).
Basically, students will have: i) an adequate knowledge of occupational diseases and their causality, as well as the basic methods of prevention. ii) adequate knowledge of the laws relating to the health and safety of the workplace, with reference to general and specific legislation; iii) the capacity to face the relations with employer, manager and the person responsible of specific activities in the field of prevention and to face all legal issues that could arise in the company in relation to health, safety and hygiene at work.

Course syllabus
The course is addressed at students enrolled in the third year of the three-year period and as an optional subject for single-cycle students, held in the second semester, having as its object a 360 ° overview of all aspects of Occupational Medicine that they may have, for various reasons a legal relevance (civil or criminal) The topics of the exam include general and specific legislation, specific risks and diseases, role of the occupational doctor and prevention technician in the company and in the public system, risk assessment, first aid , requirement of preventive behavior in relation to the current state of knowledge.
Prerequisites for admission
Prerequisites are consistent with the didactic regulation of the course; in particular, students must have attended courses on private law institutions and constitutional law and passed the related exams.

Students' proficiency assessment The students' proficiency assessment will be conducted through the administration of a multiple-answer questionnaire made of30 questions, with four possible answers each, of which only one will be correct.
