Archaeology of Magna Grecia

Learning objectives
The course aims to present the Greek civilization in southern Italy and Sicily through the archaeological evidence returned by the cities and the territory, and to provide an update on the most current issues. Ample space will be given to the problem of apoikìa and to the archeology of 'encounters' (8th and 7th centuries BC), to ways of living in cities and the territory, as well as to the sacred space.

Knowledge and understanding: Good knowledge of the civilization of the Greeks of ancient Italy.

Part A (20 hours, 3 credits): Choose the apoikía, towards an archeology of 'encounters'.
Part B (20 hours, 3 credits): Living in Magna Grecia; the space of man, the space of woman, the space of the dead.
Part C (20 hours, 3 credits): Greeks in Campania.
The course is aimed at Master of Science in Archeology and Philology, Literature and History of Antiquity.
Students bringing only the 6 CFU programme will have to bring parts A and B, without part C on Greeks in Campania.
Part B (20 hours, 3 credits): Living in Magna Grecia; the space of man, the space of woman, the space of the dead.
Part C (20 hours, 3 credits): Greeks in Campania.
The course is aimed at Master of Science in Archeology and Philology, Literature and History of Antiquity.
Students bringing only the 6 CFU programme will have to bring parts A and B, without part C on Greeks in Campania.
Prerequisites for admission
The course is open to everyone; Archeology and Greek art and Greek history exams are recommended

The topics and themes of the course will be illustrated through slides; attendance is highly recommended.
