Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge on:
· the concept of human homeostasis at the molecular, cellular and tissue level and the mechanisms aimed at maintaining homeostasis, in the context of the modifications of the surrounding environment
· the principles of sensorimotor physiology
· the neurobiological and psychophysiological concepts related to behavior and interactions between the subject and the environment
· the biological processes at the molecular level, the structure, properties and functions of biomolecules.
· the biochemistry of pathological states
· the human systematic biochemistry
· the molecular and cellular biology
· the morphological characteristics of the systems, apparatuses, organs, tissues of the human organism, as well as their main morpho-functional correlates
· the functional characteristics of the human organs, their dynamic integration into apparatus and the general control mechanisms
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will have to know:
· the concept of human homeostasis at the molecular, cellular and tissue level and the bases of its mainteinance, in the context of the modifications of the surrounding environment
· the general principles of sensorimotor physiology
· the fundamental neurobiological and psychophysiological concepts related to behavior and interactions between the subject and the environment
· the biological processes at the molecular level, the structure, properties and functions of biomolecules.
· the biochemical bases of pathological states
· the bases of human systematic biochemistry
· the bases of molecular and cellular biology
· the main morphological characteristics of the systems, apparatuses, organs, tissues of the human organism, as well as their main morpho-functional correlates
· the general functional characteristics of the human organs, their dynamic integration into apparatus and the general control mechanisms

Prerequisites for admission
Students must have basic knowledge of the secondary school in the fields of physics and biology.
Assessment methods and Criteria
The learning assessment takes place through a written test consisting of 40 single-answer questions. The number of questions for each discipline is proportional to the ECTS (10 questions of Biochemistry, 15 of Human Anatomy and 15 Human Physiology). The questions concern the whole program and are distributed among the various topics according to their relevance.
The test lasts 60 minutes. The evaluation is expressed in thirtieths and will be considered passed when the candidate reaches an evaluation equal to 18/30 equivalent to 25 correct questions. No intermediate tests are foreseen.
The results of the written test are communicated to the students through publication on the Ariel website of the course, together with the electronic report.

Human anatomy
Course syllabus
Nervous tissue: definition and organization. Neurons: morphological and functional classification criteria. Structure and ultrastructure of the neuron. Anatomical basis of the mechanisms of transduction, conduction and transmission of nerve impulses. Myelin sheath: definition, formation, structure and ultrastructure. Glia: definition and function. Morphological and functional characteristics of the different types of gliocytes. Neuromuscular junction: morphology, structure, ultrastructure and function.
Nervous system: definition, organ composition, functions. General principles of neuroanatomy; functional significance of the different nervous devices. Axial and supra-axial organs, arch structure of the central nervous system; last common pathway; constructive principles of the somatosensory and motor pathways. Reflected and integrated answers; somatotopy.
Sensitivity classification and considerations on the morphological basis of pain.
Central nervous system: concise systematic treatment of organs; internal cavities; liquor circulation.
Peripheral nervous system: general information on spinal and encephalic nerves; principles of somatic and visceral innervation. Sympathetic nervous system.
