Learning objectives
The course aims to complete the knowledge of the main grammatical and syntax notions, such that to understand complex texts of economic, political, social and literary contents. The translation training activities aims to enrich the lexical knowledge, to analyse complex syntactic structures and to make good use of dictionaries.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be in position to hold complex conversations and to make articulate translations. The skills acquired will be sufficient for taking at least the certification exam HSK 3 (B1).

Program Unit 1:
Complex constructions: anticipation of the object and passive sentences; simple and complex indefinite substitutes; comparisons.
Units 8-12 of the textbook Course of Intermediate Chinese Language will be carried out.
Program Teaching Unit 2:
Units 13-18 of the intermediate Chinese language course book will be carried out.
Program Teaching Unit 3 - Complex Syntactic Structures in Contemporary Chinese:
Approach to the translation with particular attention to the political, economic and legal language, to start the student to translation techniques through the use of the dictionary.
Prerequisites for admission
Full mastery of the notions learned over the previous two years.
Teaching methods
The Italian teacher will explain the new words, the grammatical and syntactic rules; she is also responsible for translating conversations and readings from Chinese into Italian and translating sentences from Italian to Chinese.
The mother tongue teacher will take care of the pronunciation and writing of Chinese characters, and will exercise students in understanding and exposition.

Assessment methods and Criteria
At the end of the first semester an intermediate, non-compulsory verification is foreseen, which includes the following exercises:
- sentences to reorder
- phrases in which to insert the missing word given in the spaces A, B, C or D.
- sentences to be translated from Italian into Chinese (characters only)
- short translation from Chinese to Italian

Both the intermediate test and the written appeals will be valid for all the appeal sessions of the academic year. 2023-2024.

For official appeals, in addition to grammar exercises, the translation of a passage from Chinese to Italian is also provided with the aid of the paper dictionary.

The oral discussion for Italian students will be divided into two parts:
- reading and translation of the passages and articles and explanation of some grammatical structures present within all the lessons dealt with during the course
- conversation in Chinese with the mother tongue teacher on previously proposed topics.

The written test for Chinese students includes only the translation of a passage from Chinese to Italian with the help of the paper dictionary.

The oral discussion for Chinese students only involves an interview with the Italian teacher: the candidate will be asked to try his hand at translating the conversations and readings taken from the Intermediate Chinese Language Course text (lez. 10-18)
