Course syllabus
Specifically, the course is designed to provide students with a knowledge and critical understanding of the developments of educational systems in comparative perspective. The course will examine the historical origins and process of institutionalisation of educational systems in advanced democracies. Central to the course is a comparative examination of education policy reforms in Europe, North America, and Japan. The course discusses comparative education in relation to globalisation and Europeanization, focusing on the extent of policy change, continuity and convergence, paying special attention to the frameworks used by political scientists and theories of public policy analysis.
Teaching methods
Students will attend one weekly two-hour seminars with an Introduction to the Course class. The total number of classes is 10.
Attendance to the seminars is compulsory. All students are expected to develop advanced skills in presenting ideas and discussing their arguments with the group.
