Learning objectives
The course is aimed to provide students with the following skills


- knowledge and understanding in the field of study. The student will acquire a specific knowledge of consumer law and ability to understand the general principles underlying it;

- ability to interpret the rules of the Civil Code, the Consumer Code and European legislation;

- ability to analyze the principles and rules studied and to apply this knowledge to specific cases;

- ability to express the knowledge acquired with appropriate legal language and coherent argumentation;

Students are requested to develop those learning skills that are necessary for them to continue to undertake further study with a high degree of autonomy.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students who have successfully learned the subject matter will have a thorough knowledge of the course topics, with the acquisition of a method of reasoning suitable for dealing with more specific and complex legal issues in relation to the topics covered by the course.

Course syllabus
The course focuses on consumer protection in the Italian legal system. It aims to offer an in-depth analisys of consumer protection policies in Europe and Italy, considering the scope of a competitive market, that plays a fundamental role in the realization of fundamental human rights.
The lessons will focus on: the origins and evolution of European and Italian Consumer law; the regulation of competition as a "public good"; rules on commercial advertising and correct information; unfair commercial practices; provisions on product safety, quality and conformity; liability for defective products; consumer credit and over-indebtedness, mass contracts, sales and other contracts relevant to consumers, financial services, relations with public administrations, remedies and access to justice in individual and collective forms; alternative dispute resolution (ADR); the role of the Antitrust Authority, consumer associations, chambers of commerce and conciliation.
Prerequisites for admission
Private Law I and II are recommended
Teaching methods
Consumer law is set on 42 hours of lectures held by the Professor.
Seminars and practical classes will be held by researchers and phd-students in order to study, through case law and AGCM and ABF decisions, specific subjects covered by the course.

Assessment methods and Criteria
A written or oral test is provided for attending students at their choice. The written test consists of an essay on some topics of the program. The oral test consists of an interview to ascertain student's knowledge on consumer law.
For non-attending students only the oral test is provided.
There may be variations in relation to the evolution of the health situation, ensuring, in the least favorable case, oral examination through Microsoft Teams platform.
