Learning objectives
The course aims to provide notions of epidemiology and prevention of dentoparodontal diseases and of the correct management of patients in pediatric age.
Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to identify the oral pathologies typical of the pediatric patient and will know how to put in place adequate preventive strategies for the age.

Assessment methods and Criteria
The assessment method includes a written test consisting of two parts: a multiple-choice questionnaire and an open question. In the multiple choice, the knowledge regarding the behavioral approach to the child, caries risk assessment, caries and gingivitis prevention in pediatric patient are evaluated. In the open question a clinical situation is presented. The student is asked to identify risk factors for oral health and to describe which treatments at the dental unit and at home the student would adopt to reduce the risk of caries and gingivitis. No supporting material is required for the test. The result of the test is transmitted through the university's online services. Students can request a meeting with the professor to be able to see the corrections of their questionnaire and to discuss their mistakes.

The topics covered in the course are:
· Communicate with pediatric patients of different ages;
· Caries epidemiology in children;
· The etiology and treatment of early childhood caries;
· The efficacy of fluoride in caries prevention;
· Use of sealants in caries prevention;
· Principles of non-operative and operative treatment of dental caries;
· Developmental defects of dental tissues;
· Non-nutritive sucking
